Tuesday Training 30th June 2009
Next Canning training night will be a handicap start. Winner of the night is anyone getting a PB (provided they have at least two recorded times) else the first paddler across the line from the handicap start. If there are two PBs on the night then greatest PB wins. Conditions : A cold but nice still evening, low water levels making for slow paddling conditions. Paddlers : After a lot of rain during the day we were very lucky the skys cleared and it was a nice still night but with low water levels. A smaller turn out than normal not surprising given the conditions with 12 paddlers. Paddlers included Phil Gore in a TK1, Tim Coward and Richard Tempest and Steve and Cindy Coward in K2s, Francis Nolan and new paddler Christian Maliphant in Skis and Gregoriy Tsaplin and Dave Campbell in K1's, John Breed a DR boat, Rob Duncan and Lyn Maleevsky in long plastics. This weeks course was the 2 lap Wadjup point course. Course was approximately 5km. Result : Cold, still, low water conditions tonight made for slow times with only one PB set. Winner of the night was the double of Richard Tempest and Tim Coward who beat their previous PB by 14 seconds. Steve and Cindy were effectively second narrowly missing out on beating their own PB. A very impressive performance was demonstrated by new paddler Christian Maliphant who completed the 5km course in 24:36. Tonight's photo shows Club member Dave Campbell presenting Richard Tempest and Tim Coward with their winning movie voucher. Thanks to Dave Campbell for supplying hot chips for the paddlers after the race. Highlight of the evening : A first time win by Richard Tempest and Tim Coward. Anyone is welcome to join us on Tuesday evenings at 6PM on the Eastern bank of the Riverton Bridge. $2 to enter with a chance to win a movie voucher, any craft, any experience welcome.
